Fielder Pools Then and Now
I began my pool building career at the age of 12. As a child growing up in West Texas, I worked alongside my father and mentor, Richard Fielder (left) for years. I can recall many occasions, sitting next to my dad speaking to prospects about their dream of owning a swimming pool. My dad would simply grab a napkin or piece of paper, draw the pool on it, then it either ended up with a signature on the napkin or a simple firm handshake. Reputation goes a long way and I never take that for granted.
Richard was involved in every phase of the pool building process. From design and planning and on to layout, excavation, plumbing, rebar, gunite, tile, coping, decking, equipment set, plastering, clean up and startup. His hands on approach was well known and appreciated. He is highly regarded as one of the pool masters of his time, building fine swimming pools all over West Texas. Humorous, fond stories of Richard still surface today, told by loving family members and life long friends, recalling the happiness and joy that he brought into their lives.

Dickie Fielder (right) began his career in pool building, not by choice but circumstance. The summer between 5th and 6th grades was spent along dad's side, while constructing a Jr. Olympic pool for West Texas Boys Ranch outside of San Angelo.
I remember being hot and sweaty, spending all day, every day, watching and learning the process. I was too young to participate much but adored my father and just wanted to hang out. By the end of the summer, I remember watching the swimming lane tile being installed, fencing being erected, equipment being set and finally plaster day! It was so exciting to see the water being filled in the pool and finally starting up the equipment. I was like.....WOW! Look what my dad does. He is so awesome! I still get those same feelings of excitement to this very day when I start up a new project. It gives me a strong sense of satisfaction that I can't explain except to say, I know someone's life is about to change forever and for the better. I love my job, building relationships and am enjoying a very satisfying, fulfilling career with over 40 years in the swimming pool industry. Thank you dad.
